Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii's way to say Merry Christmas to you!

"Mele Kalikimaka" words and Music by R. Alex Anderson Copyright 1950

This fun little song is the perfect vehicle for ukelele and steel guitar.
As a young boy I remember Arthur Godfrey singing and playing the uke.
So when it came time to record and mix this song, I had some fun adding the announcer and
audience sounds from Arthur Godfrey's talent scouts old TV show.

Then in the middle section I added some native drums and Hawaiian War chant style singing,
just to change it up a bit. It reminded me of the Totem poles that sing in the
"Enchanted Tiki Room" at Disneyland. Once again I had a lot of fun with this in the studio,
adding part after part, and letting the creative juices flow.

I love the original version by Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters, but this is something a little different.

Mele Kalikimaka to all!

That was beautiful and obviously a lot of fun to put together. Thanks for sharing it.

I like it a lot. It does remind me of the Tiki Room.
