A friend of a friend is thinking about diving into the resonator pond. Who's giving lessons in the Chicago area these days?

Just want to be able to pass along the info.

I'm a professional guitar teacher located in the western suburbs, have been teaching standard guitar since 1989 and have been playing Bluegrass and Country Dobro for 2 years. I would welcome a beginning student.

I teach in the student's home at reasonable rates. I can also do setup work and minor repairs.

If your friend is interested I'll be happy to email or phone to discuss further. Thanks!

Chris: Not sure where your friend lives; but assuming its in the western suburbs sounds like Mark would be a great resource.

I teach dobro and Weissenborn guitar at the Chicago Old Town School of Folk Music www.oldtownschool.org which is located in the city of Chicago in the Lincoln Square area.

You didn't mention what style your friend was interested in, so for whatever its worth - I'm more of a bluegrass dobro guy than anything else; although I LOVE the Weissenborn and especially the music of David Lindley and Ry Cooder. If your friend is interested in western swing, Keith Baumann (who also teaches at the OTSFM) is your guy.

If you friend lives ever further out west he might try to look up Dave Kohlars (a.k.a. D.K.) who is a fantastic resource for country music and traditional bluegrass dobro. I think he lives in the DeKalb area.

Best regards,
Rob Anderlik

thanks guys! I'll pass this info along. I don't know about what style she's looking to play, seems to have a general interest in the instrument.
