Just got a set of original Black Diamond steel strings n.i.b. from the 50's?. Strung up my other Oahu acoustic and wow do they sound great. Very warm and full toned. The 2nd Oahu has recent nickel semi-flats. Don't know if they will last as long but there is something to be said for aged steel. Maybe some of you long timers can expand on the virtues of those good old strings of yesterday. |

Back in 1945 & "46 I used to buy iron wound strings made by Electromuse, they had the most powerful and loud sound being pure iron & highly magnetic but they would rust up in a few days and my hands would be red from rust !! I finally switched to Gibson "Monel" wrapped strings but you had to buy two or three sets to get the strings you needed as they were not "gauged" by .ooo as now . Eddie "C" ( the ole geezer ) |

Posted 26 Nov 2007 10:47 pm It was good enough for JERRY BYRD...........

A short time back, I rec'd my 'special order' of GIBSON Spanish Guitar strings.....in broken set configuration. I use the same combination as did JERRY BYRD (see JBFC site)and they have served me well. THEY have a special 'sound' that I simply cannot achieve by using boxed sets of any brand.
$127.00 for the complete package......
Now, I'm waiting for Kenny Dail or Eddie Cunningham to join with me in stringing up my dozen Bakelites, as well as the others. I just don't think my wrist will take all of that twisting and turning that's required to string-up nearly two dozen guitars. Oh well............. |

Posted 27 Nov 2007 11:02 am Hey Ray !! Change strings ???
Ray , I only change my strings when they break or rust thru !! But if you want all the strings changed on those Bake. Ricks., just send them all here with the strings and I'll also need your Volu-Tone amp to play them thru and I'll take care of that problem for you !! Good luck !!! Eddie "C" ( the ole geezer ) |

Ray , you need a tuner crank. I have three around here and use them all the time. Too much arthitis for me to twist tuner knobs that much |

Go high tech like the guitar factory in Nazareth. Purchase a small battery drill and get the tuner adaptor from say Stew Mac and you will be amazed at how easy it is to hold the string and wind the tuner shaft like a pro. |
