Pete Drake had some of the most unique musical sounds of any instrument ever played on this planet. Here's a couple samples of them.

The 1st one on C6 bars the 1st string "D" at the 5th fret to emulate the missing top "G" string. You can also hammer on and hammer off some of the notes instead of using the pedals for a completely different sound. If you have a top G string you have the luxury of playing this riff at any fret and adding some Pete Drake vibrato to it.

The second riff is done on E9th and can be played at any fret. I just thought it sounded best at the 2nd fret! Note how the bar vibrato adds to the authenticiy of the sound.
