What's your opinion of the Peavey Nashville 1000.
Should I buy one or something else. I don't usually buy used and there doesn't seem to be a hugh selection of PSG amps. Thanks for your thoughts
God Bless you all,
Bob

Bob,
Don't know what part of Florida you are in, but if you make it to any of the jams in Lee, Lake City,
Lake Panasoffkee or Bradenton, you'll see plenty of NV1000s and NV112s in use.

Bob,
Brooksville is convenient to Lake Panasoffkee,
the Steel Guitar Club is there at Catfish Johnny's restaurant on the second Wednesday of each month.
It is always announced on the SGF.

Drop me an e mail next time you are in town.

Bob, I've had most of Peavey's offerings over the last 30 years and the NV1000 is probably the best steel amp they have made IMO. I've had a Session400, a Nashville 400 and I have a DPC750 based rack rig as well but that NV1000 is excellent - and it is a bit lighter than the previous amps, as well as having more power.
You could do a lot worse.

Michael, Greetings my friend,
So how do you cope with the cold weather so far north. Those steel players are just tough dudes.
Stay warm Brother,

Greetings Bob, from Central Fl where it is really cold (rarely); I'm inland from Daytona Beach. The old LTD 400 is probably, IMO, the best steel amp Peavey made; basically is the same as the Session 400, but smaller lighter cab. Now, the newer Nashville 112 is certainly a great little amp as well; Lots of the guys use 2 of them, light easy to carry. ...Blessings on ya'

Hi Stan, Thanks for your advice. I've used and loved Peavey gear over 30 years. The problem is that they had to lower there quality to compete with all the lower price imported junk. The last 2 new PV guitar amps I purchased have not been good. Humm, buzz, static, just not the same good PV as in the past. I do like to buy new, but in this case, I'm now looking for a good clean Nashville 400, Session 400 or LTD 400. Also I don't think I would be happy with 12" speaker unless maybe I replaced it with a 12" Black Widow.
By the way, about 10 years ago I purchased a 39 and a 40 Chevy from a fellow in Deland. I think his name was Richard Rice. I loved the area and the people, really friendly. Must be a great place to live.
Thanks again,
Bob

Hey Bob,
Yep, Deland is a nice small town kinda place; I live in 3 acres of woods. (don't know the Rice guy) ...I got my LTD 400 new years ago, and it got old & tired, so I sent it to Ken Fox for the mod he does, then the JBL blew, & I then put a Commonwealth in it. Now, that is some amp Exclamation If you can find one that has already had the mod, or an old one cheap and have Ken Fox do the mod, would be a great amp. Of course, same can be said for the Session 400. I had a NV 400, but traded it for the NV 112, and it's a better amp in my opinion, to my tired old ears.

Stan, I don't know of this Ken Fox, but it seems I should keep his name if I find an workable amp.
Maybe I should buy a NV 112. I haven't heard anything bad about it and have had some negitive remarks on the NV 1000. Thanks again & keep on pic'in
God Bless you,
Bob

Bob, I would suggest to go into the Electronics section of this Forum, and browse around in there awhile. There are a lot of discussions going on about amps, the 112, the NV 1000, Ken Fox mods, etc etc. A guy can learn a lot by just reading all those posts.
I just read one thread discussing Dickey Overbey's amp & settings & stuff, and it turns out he is using an old LTD 400. Dickey is one fabulous player, I got to set and listen to him one time here in a small music store, for about 2 solid hours of his playing. It's like the guy & his instrument becomes one. Cool

I kind of think it is impossible to say what is the best amp. I think maybe this amp may be the best for this guitar with these pickups..., but another may be best for another. I owned a NV 112 and it was fine but just didn't excite me much. Swapped it off to a buddy of mine and he loves it with his Emmons. I own a Steel King and like it better than I did the NV112, especially on the C6 neck. I also own a NV1000 and for me, for my rig, etc... this is THE amp. I love the sound I get with the NV1000 with my GFI.

I'm my experience the NV1000 doesn't have a bad tone in it, but it doesn't have any great ones either. It's really easy to plug in and go with minimal dial-in, and it sounds fine, if a bit "clinical" and "detached". Not bad at all, you understand, and as reliable as a stone axe.

But driving it with Brad's Revelation preamp is just amazing.

I use the Nash 1k in conjunction with The Steel Guitar Black Box and an MSA Millennium. I certainly like the sound.
I also have a Fender Twin Reverb but in my opinion the Nash has a "better" sound.
And yes, it can compete with a twin setup of 400`s.
I would consider the 1k a safe buy but the Brad Box is a MUST if you want it to sound right.

Bob I am partial to Vegas 400, but again heavy. I have a N112 after it breaks in a great little amp, you can order from Bobbe and get it in 3 days, with a good price. It has covered every gig with much more volume than I need.
The front end of the 112 is the same as the 1000, same EQ needed to play.

Set up right it has a great sound with a DD3, turn the mids down and the base up and the other adjustments to your ear as to what sounds good to you.
A plus it is not so heavey, i put rollers on mine.

I used a Session 500 for many years and it was a great Steel Amp. For the past 5 years I have used the NV1000 and I really love it and never had any problems with it. I keep a NV112 for a spare Amp and I like it to, Shorty

Last night I played an outdoor gig at the national Rodeo finals, and the band wasn't miked due to the sound system not being quite up to anything but vocals. Well that NV1000/Rev Pre was outstanding, and cut through really well - I guess this was a situation where all that power was an absolute asset, and we were playing pretty loud as well!

I would steer clear....I never cared for the tone from the 1000 that I had, and I wound up selling it within 6 months of buying it brand new. I stuck with my Session 400 until Fender came out with the Steel King. My advice? Get the Steel King, and you'll never have any problem with getting a great tone (and Fender reverb, to boot!).
