In the conversion of an Emmons LeGrande, 8&9, to 14 hole bellcranks, I found 3/32" SS welding rod works very well. E-mail for a couple of ideas for retaining the rods ro the bellcrank.

You may also want to check out ENCO for cutting tools such as threading dies. You can purchase from their website via credit/debit card. Their del'y is fantastic. Yes, stainless steel welding rod is available at welding supply stores everywhere and won't rust. It's usually 316 SS rod and cuts well. Be sure to hit the threads on a buffing wheel to knock off the 'shear' edges a bit. The nylon tuners will last 50 years or better.

The Great Jimmie Crawford told me that motorcycle wheel spokes were commonly used, they are already threaded on one end. |

Gary, It seems 3/32 rod is used quite a bit now.
I used 3/32 stainless steel...303 I think they called it. Stainless, but not the hardest so that you can thread it without too much hassle. |
