Is anybody familiar with Bobby Koefer's playing style , I saw a video of him playing and it looks like he's just using a thumb pick only. Does he just do single note runs or does he hit several strings at a time using only his thumb pick. Also what tunings did he use to accomplish this unique playing style. Thanks - Rich |

John - Thanks , I did a search but it only talks abouts his tunings and doesn't address whether he did only single note runs or strummed any chords. - Rich |

I saw Bobby Koefer many times in person in the late 50's when he was with Bill Gray's band in Oklahoma.
It appears he still plays the same T-8 Fender (I was playing same guitar then only in blonde finish)so I was really interested in how he picked and tuned. He used only a thumbpick, and yes he does great single string and strums in his runs. His main tuning then was E13th on outside neck, A6th middle, and he only had two strings on the inside neck, since he said he was still experimenting on that neck. He also uses a unique steel bar and holds it from the top. He said that was the natural way he started playing.
Also, he is a master at clear chimes.
Thanx,
Jim |

Just goes to show you that there's no right or wrong way. What ever it takes to get that sound out is what's right. |
