I asked this question in my other BMI topic but can anyone share a little history of Beck Musical Instruments? I have searched the web but came up empty.
When I buy my first pedal steel it would be interesting to know a little about the company. I am leaning toward a BMI come next March but other than it being a great guitar I can't find much else as far as history or even some good pictures of the underneath of an S-10.

Thanks Rex! Yes, it does help. I am a rookie to everything pedal steel but trying to learn from you that have experience with different brands especially
BMI since thats what I have at the top of my list as a first pedal steel. I see alot of sturdy parts there Very Happy
Just what I figured I would see. I am seeing that the pedal steel is a fascinating instrument in all aspects.

Calvin:
My wife became interested in the lap steel a couple of years ago and I have always loved the pedal steel especially. I ran across the Forum and found a link to Jason Dumont. He built my wife a very nice and I mean VERY nice 6-st. lap steel. She had never played before that but with the Cindy Cashdollar DVD she is going at it and learning alot. She has had it I think about a year now. I hope to get my pedal steel next March and we can work at some things together. At least we'll try.

I should call BMI and ask them for a little history. I
bet they can tell me all I need to know. Why didn't I think of that sooner? Confused

I am not a BMI authority, but Zane Beck sold ZB ca. late 60s and died, if memory serves, in the mid-80s. (I saw a Steel Guitar Hall of Fame bio online once upon a time.) So there you have 20+ years of history and likely several more. Search the Forum, because a lot of members have posted about their BMIs and given dates acquired/manufactured.
