Can anyone help me learn the lick that comes right after he sings "green snakes on the ceiling"? Or any other licks from this song?  |

| Jim... go up three frets from the root position, and play strings 456, using the F lever. I believe that is correct. Hope this helps |

| Thanks Jim Bob for your reply. I'm not sure what you mean by "up three frets from the root position". If the song is in E, does that mean three frets up from open, which would put you on the 3rd fret (or 15th if you want it an octave higher)? Then it immediatly plays a similar lick over an A chord, so would that be 3 frets up from the 5th fret, putting you on the 8th fret? |

You are absolutely right. Except the second chord is on the root fret with the A and B pedals down. Mess around with it and you will figure it out. It's a little different from some leads. Like you, I dig the way it was done. I have a lot of respect for guys who think out of the box and come up with new stuff for us to try to find. Hope this helps.
BTW, the root fret refers to the key you are in. As C open would be on the 8th fret. Root in chords also refers to the key you are in. For a C chord, the notes would be C E G, with the C being the root. Hope I haven't confused you.
Also 3 frets up with the F lever engaged is the dominant 7th of the root chord. It's the seventh sound that sounds cool. |
