Hi Folks-

I have an old Oahu amplifier from the 30's or 40's -round radio face, Oahu in wood script across front, that needs a new 8" speaker. The amp is used for lap and regular electric guitar. Can anyone suggest a good replacement and where to buy from?
Also, do I need to take out the part that houses the tubes for access to the speaker?

Thanks-
-rs

Weber makes a killer Jensen style 8" alnico that will sound better than what you had.

Thanks Keith-

4 ohms or 8 ohms? Is there a big difference between the two?

I believe you can order it to spec, 4 or 8; I am not sure though. As to how it will sound, there are others more expert than me on those issues.

Keith-

Thanks again for the info - The Weber's look great and they explain the ohm issue on their site.

I don't know if it matters when you replace it, but the original speaker is probably a field coil magnet speaker. If I'm remembering correctly it gets it's magnetic charge from somewhere in the amp.

Maybe someone here who knows more can tell you if you need to replace it with another field coil magnet speaker or not (if it is indeed one to start with).

Hi Don-

The speaker in there now is atually an old Slimline
Hi Fidelity speaker which I think is from an old stereo speaker or radio speaker(?).

It looks fairly simple to replace, but I have no idea about the coil issue.

Thanks-
