I just got my first PSG, it's virtually brand new, and here's the problem:
On the 8th string, I tune the E in using the keys, when I use the knee lever and raise it to F, it's Flat(about 20 cents) so I use the tuners on the side and raise the F so it's in tune. Now when I play the E, it's Sharp. So I tune the E again and it starts all over. I think I'm chasing my tail here a bit
All the other pedals and knee levers tune in fine.
Is the answer to move the stop on my F lever so it's in tune? I kinda thought that's what the side tuners are for...
BTW, I've been tuning guitars for years so I'm not new to the process.
Any thoughts from some of you vets would be appreciated. PC

Pete, try backing your tuning nut out until you have a slight bit of play, then start over. Just a thought. _________________ Custom Rittenberry SD10

Hi Jon - Thanks for responding and for the reading.
I'll just send it back to the manufacture. |

Pete, I think you had it exactly right--you need to adjust the stop for the lever itself to allow more travel. Then back off the "F" tuning nut and start over.
The problem I think you're having is that when you tune the F up, you're making the pull rod so short that it can't allow the changer finger to return fully to basic position when you release the lever. By adjusting for more travel and then retuning, you'll be making the pull rod length longer.
Hope this helps.
Incidentally, the guitar may have been set up that way because, as mentioned above, most (not all!) players tune the F notes flat of center on the meter. But that's a different subject. |
