Since I have not been in the market for an updated efects unit, I don't know what is on the market at this time. I love my old Profex II, but it is now sixteen years old. It has all of the Ken Fox mod's and still sounds great. However, I know that it will some day konk out. What type of efects unit would give me a similar or better sound? Is there anything out there that uses the memory card similar to the Profex II? I prefer a rack mount unit rather than a floor unit. And lastly, from whom can these efects units be purchased. I'll be grateful to hear what my fellow Forumites suggest. Alan this does not answer your question, but I have a Profex for sale with all the mods and setup, mods by Ken fox. If you decide you want a backup it is $275.00.

Thanks Ernest but I am really looking at what new efects technology is on the market. However, at my age my old Profex II may out last me at the present time I am 4.2 times older than it is.....alan _________________ Mullen (Black) Pre G-2 9x7, B.L. 705 PUP's, Evans SE 200 Telonics NEO 15-4, BJS Bar, Peterson Strobo Flip, Steelers Choice Seat, Folgers Coffee and Hilton Pedals.

I replaced my Profex with a TC electronics G Major.
TC makes several nice units suitable for steel. They are not cheap, but they sound great and are easy to use.
I would look at the:
G major
G sharp
M one.
One of the above (I think M one) has 2 knobs that can be set to adjust 2 effects within a saved program.
For example you could have a reverb and delay program and use 1 knob to adjust reverb and the other to adjust delay time according to the room without having to edit the patch. The lack of that feature is what I did not like about the Peavey unit I had.
The G major I have only has one knob, had I known I would have went for the one with 2.
Good Luck with whatever you choose.
Best,
Justin |

As long as the battery is maintained in the Profex II, the unit will last a very long time. If I can be of further assistance, please call me toll free at 1-877-732-8391, ext. 1180 and I'll be glad to assist.

Thanks Justin and Mike, I'm pretty sure that this old Profex II will out last me. It has sure served me well. I have the batteryless mod as well as the complete set of mods that Ken Fox provides so it may never poop out. I just thought there might be some updated effects unit on the market. Maybe someday Peavey will come out with an updated version of the Profex again. alan _________________ Mullen (Black) Pre G-2 9x7, B.L. 705 PUP's, Evans SE 200 Telonics NEO 15-4, BJS Bar, Peterson Strobo Flip, Steelers Choice Seat, Folgers Coffee and Hilton Pedals.

Ok Mike, get the design team on the ball with the Profex III, I haven't got very many more years to wait. Put me on the "I want one" list.... alan _________________ Mullen (Black) Pre G-2 9x7, B.L. 705 PUP's, Evans SE 200 Telonics NEO 15-4, BJS Bar, Peterson Strobo Flip, Steelers Choice Seat, Folgers Coffee and Hilton Pedals.

Allen, you are in the area with the "biggies". Check around and see what they are using these days. |
