Here is the Martin parlour guitar. This was reportedly a gift from Barney Kessel to Al's wife before they were married. The owner of a local shop dealing in high-end acoustic intstruments believes that it has been refinished or over-sprayed at some point. If so it would probably have been done by Kessel in the 1950's. To me this doesn't affect the beauty of the instrument, and it's amazing that it plays perfectly at the age of 108 years. But it does limit the value to collectors. I'm asking $7,500 but am open to offers.

More pictures available on request.

I do, I bought the whole lot in an auction from Al's estate. It was impulsive - I had some cash in the bank from selling my house in Austin, which I'm supposed to be using it to buy a place in Portland again. But I thought maybe I could find good homes for most of the items and maybe have a crack at keeping a couple things. . . give me a shout I'll be in town!

ps Are you going to be playing? My dad is big into the Zydeco scene here, sometimes he hooks me up with gigs backing up guys who come through. Mostly guitar but steel sounds good with it too!

Pardon my ignorance, but who's 'Al'?

I know a bunch of 'Al's but can't fathom this one.
