Topic: Can anyone price these guitars? |

| A friend of mine has a couple of old lap steels and wants to get a ballpark figure for what they're worth. I had no idea but told him that some knowledgeable guys on The Steel Guitar Forum might know. One is a 7 string Gibson that looks like it might be late 40's or early 50's vintage and DGE377 stamped on it. The other one is a Loney 6 string made in Canton Ohio with a pearl like plastic finish that was popular in the 50's. |

| I'd like to see a picture of the Loney, it might be like the one I used to have and if so I can get pretty close on the value, though you might be a bit disappointed. |

| a safe range for vintage steels that are not bakelite Ricky's would be the 300 to 400 range. |

I'd like a little more information on the 7 string Gibson. I just restored a 1953 Gibson Ultratone.

It's really hard to provide even a ballpark figure without some pictures of the instruments in question.

| Brad: On your website there's a picture of a very similar guitar (EH150). Exceptions are 7 strings instead of 6, both controls are on front instead on each side of the pickup. Looks like the same type of pickup except the bobbin is white instead of black. I'll post photos if I can ever figure out how (I'm not very computer smart) |

sounds like an EH-150 or EH-100, controls on 1 side means '39 or later if bridge covered.
If thwe pickup is 6-sided its a 150, if its 4-sided, its a 100. Both types are blade-type, and blades are thick. These are said to be "Charlie Christian pickups".

| I just finished fixing up an old Gibson seven string that looks like an EH150, but I really don't know what model or year it really is. I just changed the pots today (it had two from china in it..100K) and it sounds really nice, but not much sustain. I used a 250K pot on volume and 500K for tone. |

They do lack sustain, but the plunky woody thing they do is good for blues IMO.
If you don't like the 7 maybe we can work something out. |
