Lloyd Green playing "Boy Genius" with Peter Cooper at the Station Inn.
Obviously somebody's shaky hand held camera phone.... but the steel sounds GREAT!
Give us this day our daily tone... |

Rumor has it that Lloyd will be playing this Saturday night with Dale Watson at the "Mercy Lounge" here in Nashville, at one of the "Americana Music Association" shows.
I'd definitely planned to be there, but instead will be happily performing at the Ryman Auditorium with my favorite "girl singer", Patty Loveless. I can think of worse excuses to miss it! I was there at The Station Inn when Lloyd played with Peter Cooper and it was incredible.
As far as Lloyd playing with Dale,it is just a rumor; I don't know for sure. But it was a pretty reliable source... |

Best of luck to you Pete. If you're on the TV portion maybe I'll catch it.
I'll never forget telling everyone here on The Forum that one of my favorite steel solos was that one that Paul Franklin played in her song "Blame In On Your Heart". Of course, I now stand corrected and know that YOU played that solo. _________________ HagFan

Thanks, Ron. I don't think they're televising the Opry this week, but some artists (including Patty) will each be recording a gospel song for an Upcoming "Live at the Ryman" CD. We're going to do "Precious Memories" and I'm sure that song (and much of the evening) will be dedicated to Porter Wagoner.
But back to the topic (I really didn't mean to hijack this thread!).
So, Lloyd Green... I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that his being active playing again is the best thing to happen to the instrument in years.
He continues to amaze and inspire; I'm glad to occasionally have the chance to see him play, and to get to talk a bit. As a lot of people have mentioned here there's not a more gracious, friendly person on the planet. |

Looked like Lloyd was playing an LDG there. I saw the green color when someone's flash went off |

Well, the solo (two parts, harmony) and parts of the intro and outro are me. I had just joined the band and they wanted to try something different on a track that they'd already done; so they brought in Kenny Vaughan and myself (he had just joined the band as well)
I have a hard time listening to that myself; after the first pass I asked to do it again cause I thought there were tuning issues. Instead they insisted on keeping that part and asking me to harmonize it... So it's one (kinda sloppy) take and a harmony.
I sure didn't expect it to be maybe her biggest hit, and a signature song!
I am sorry I mentioned Patty in what was a thread about Lloyd. Now back to the original subject? |

Pete,
Just going by the credits on the album. It lists Sonny as the steel player on the whole project. That's where I got my information. But, I should have known better. It happened to me once a loooooong time ago on a recording I was on and didn't get the credit either. _________________ Zumsteel steel guitars, Telonics and Peavey amplifiers, GHS strings. |

Since I'm the one that really hijacked the thread, I promise to break out both my Revisited and Steel Rides CD's this afternoon and give myself a heaping helping of Mr. Nashville Sound.
When I bought Steel Rides as a youngster-- barely 20, I bet-- I never imagined I'd one day meet Lloyd and hear him play live. Thanks to Scotty's I did that and he autographed the Revisited liner.
Jukebox Charlie and Farwell Party kill me. Seeing Lloyd play ...Charlie is about as cool as it gets for steel guitar -- IMO. _________________ HagFan

Ron, I will endorse every word you said and our experiences with Lloyd are very similar. I got tears in my eyes when I stood at the stage at the convention and watched and listened..that was 1977.
I have but one dream..to be able some day to play the ending in his instrumental version of Ride, Ride, Ride. I will then be a very happy man.
By the way, if anyone can play it...lets hear it ! |

So do any other Nashville forumites know anything about Lloyd playing With Dale Watson tonight? If he is that sure would be worth seeing! I know for sure that Dale is playing, I think his set is at 8 at the "Mercy Lounge". |

Pete Finney, Thanks for the tip on Dale Watson/Lloyd Green/Mercy Lounge. So far, I haven't been able to get a confirmation. However, I am going down to the Mercy Lounge just in case and will report back. |

That is an absolute PERFECT combination of balladeer and steel player. Lloyd may be the one who puts Dale over the top if they both choose to record and play together. I predict something big. You put out an album with this combination on it and watch the sales explode. |

Nothing like Playing Live.
Huh Lloyd.
During our conversations, I am always hit by the "favorite album" being '"Live" at Panther Hall'. Always thinking that "live" is the operative word.
Great to hear you're doing it.
Off to get set up for the Live Gig, at Jubitz tonight.
One thing that sometimes provides pause is the thought directed only at myself, that I've coined over the years of "You're only as good as your last gig."
Never enough of a pause for me not to take another one. Like many things in my life, it's always a crapshoot. and there are only so many dots on the dice.
I'm downloading the Utube Vid on my slow connection, but I'm sure that it is GREAT.
Thanks so much Lloyd.

Dale Watson worked the Mercy Lounge here in Nashville tonight as part of the Americana Music Association Conference. Dale had with him his Texas based touring band “Lonestarville” with Don Pawlick on steel, Don Raby fiddle, Gene Kurtz bass and Herb Belosky drums. Here is a photo of the proceedings:

People may remember me posting about this gig but here goes again. The very lovely lady in front of whoever held the video camera is my wife and a great vocalist Paula. The big hog head blocking the stage beside her is yours truly.
That night was so special because Dot sat behind us
and we had a nice conversation with her along with
Tommy Hannum and Bruce Bouton. The icing on the cake
was after the set I helped Lloyd carry his seat out.
What a wonderful night. Sorry to bore you again. |
