That is Russ Weaver for sure. I'm not sure of the name of the song, but Mike Smith and Paul Franklin used to tear it up back around the late 70's'and early 80's when they were running together. Great stuff and Russ does a great job on it.

Hey Jim,

I went for Lionel. It could well be Bob too but I just don't know Bob's music. I don't think it is one of the others though, certainly not Koos.

RUSS WEVER!

Now, here's an interesting factoid about this tune. I received an email a few days ago from Mike Smith who says the following:

Quote:
Don't know who is playing, but the tune is "Ahtram" which I co-wrote with Rick Harper back in the 70's (Rick was a guitarist I worked with for awhile and he went on to tour with Kenny Rogers for many years. I've tried to locate him in the last year or so with no success).

Ironically, a few folks mentioned Paul and me - we actually cut that tune together as part of a band we had named "United Steel" and Pete Drake was producing. It was never finished or released. The other cats were Randy Hauser and Ben Brogdon.

By the way, Mike also says that everyone who voted owes him a dollar for use of the tune. Jus' kidding! Wink

Looks like Bob Taillefer got the most votes, eh? Smile More folks need to know what a great jazz player RUSS is!

Well, I was wrong again! Crying or Very sad
Maybe next time. Anyway, these are always fun, and I always learn something as well as getting to hear some good jazz on steel. Looking forward to Mystery Jazz Steeler #4, Jimbeaux.
