Vintage Fender Neck

Does anybody in the whole world really believe that this is an "Authentic", "Vintage", even a real "Fender" neck? Oh wait - somebody must! Very Happy The body must've just fallen off from old age.

I am no expert on vintage Fenders and cannot verify 100% what year this neck was made.

No shirt, shetlock - $255 and rising....

There are some very faint numbers on the neck heal (some look stamped, while others look penciled), but I can only make out a few of the number (two zeros and possibly a four and a seven).

Well it's right there, it's a '47! Razz

He should rip the frets out and promote it as a Jaco Pastorius Signature Model.

He's selling the body separately. That is not unusual - parts is parts. But I have some doubts about this being a 50s Fender neck. Here's the pic of the end of the neck, where the numbers are: http://s241.photobucket.com/albums/ff175/Quadzilla69/?action=view&current=100_0705.jpg

Fender used penciled numbers till about '62, and I see what appear to be stamped numbers on there. There are a couple of other things that make me leery of this. But who knows what might have been done in 50 years. The point is it has no provenance. But I don't see him faking anything - he gives good, detailed pictures. The seller's feedback is also good, but doesn't seem to have much experience with vintage guitars.

I do think he should allow the winning bidder to return it if he can show that it's not a vintage piece, as advertised. That's probably what is keeping the price down. I know nobody wants to hear this, but if it's real, $255 is way too cheap. If it's not - well, I hate to tell you, but people are getting in the hundreds to a couple of grand for reliced Fenders and clones.
