Topic: stand for a non-peddle steel |

I have a lap steel, 6 sting has anyone made a guitar stand for one? I've tried searching on the net to see what one stand might look like, guess Im putting in the wrong search terms. Would appreciate a pic of one if someone has made one to give me an idea.

Depends on if you just want to stand all the time, or also sit down when playing. Keyboard stands are the least expensive. I prefer to sit at times so I needed one that had room underneath for my knees and also any pedals. I bought the one shown in this link and was very surprised at the quality and sturdiness. It has many adjustments available to accommodate all types of guitars. The price was right too.

I think this one is it for me! Thanks for your post. I am an old man well at 60, think I am done with standing when I can sit, but atleast I have a choice and your right from what Iv'e seen, this price is great!

I too, acquired one of those key board stands and while it indeed held the guitar well, mine was about two inches too low and I had to slouch in order to get to my strings. Probably just the model I purchased but none the less, frustrating to say the least.
Last month, eBay had no less that five different Oahu or National type metal stands, the ones that all of the early day BIG TIME PLAYERS used. They raise and lower and seem to be fairly solid but anything that has more weight at the top can be dangerously unstable. Nothing like a broken necked Rick, eh?
The metal ones have been going from $50-$350 a copy of late. |

Ray,
The one I purchased (shown in the link) has a lot of extension up or down. No problem with it regarding that issue. |

Here is one I made from a Graflex Press Camera Tripod.
 The top plate is plywood covered with felt and it sticks to the felt on the back of my 8 string almost like Velcro. |

I made this stand with a gibralter drum stand and a mahogany top then I use a non slip pad from home depot. I kind of copied one I saw on HSGA site. If I can find a link I'll post it later. Bob

Personally, I've never really seen a need for a stand for a single neck lap guitar.
I don't like to play standing up and when I sit down, I just place the guitar on my lap.
When I play a multi-neck lap steel, then I like one with legs on it. |

| My fry pan 8 weighs 15 pounds #014 by Rick Aiello. Sometimes it's nice to be sitting with it on a stand. Lots of freedom to roll my chair over to the computer for recording, etc. Also, I just had abdominal surgery, another reason I'm happy to have the fry pan up on a stand for now. |
