20 years. I am clueless.
I bought a used Emmons single neck circa early 80's in 1985 for 400 dollars.
How much would that be now.
(I would like to have a second guitar of a similar nature, or a cheap new guitar for practice at our band's practice area so I don't have to transport mine all the time)

Though new steel prices have risen steadily, the prices for used steels have really took off in the past few years. There was a good discussion of this maybe a year or so ago. I think part of the reason is the number of people doing high quality restorations. Not many people just let their old one
go for any price they can get anymore. |

That is because the earlier Maverick is a better guitar than the later "sunken keyhead-Fender type" brown vinyl covered one-I have done set-up on a fair number of them including the "transition model" which has the maple body but with the Fender type appointments-
What I am perplexed about is how the prices of used pro model single necks are bringing (or at least asking) as much or close to what a similiar make and model brings in a double neck-case in point recently on the Forum there was a single 10 MSA for $1400 and a clean D-10 MSA for the same price-If I was going to choose which for MY MONEY I would take the D-10 every time-why would anyone pay as much for seemingly "half the guitar"?
(I realize some do not play double necks and weight/portability can be a factor)

As I remember, a new Maverick was about $425 in the '70s. That would be about $1700 in today's dollars. A used one should cost about half of that, or around $800 today. So anything less than that is a pretty good bargain.
I believe a new Sho-Bud single neck Pro I was about $1000, and a D10 Pro II was about $1500. Those would be about $4200 and about $6200 in today's dollars. So I would say that many new pro models cost less today than they did in the '70s. |
