I'm highly considering getting a SuperSlide. It all started from wanting something portable so I can get some practice in from almost anywhere. I ended up coming across the Superslides and I'm considering making the plunge, however I've only been playing pedal steel for 9 months and I don't really feel ready to take on a different tuning. But I wanted an opinion on that.
Is it just going to confuse me, or is there a tuning that people use on those that will translate well from my E9th that I'm getting used to? Doe sit make more sense to hold off? Any thoughts?

Try playing YOUR PSG without touching pedals.....if it works for you then just tune a 10 (or 12) string SuperSlide to that tuning and it´s portable.

I went the opposite route than you. began with lap steel and then found pedal steel.

my lap started in open E. then pedal steel brought me to E9.

I enjoy jumping back and forth from lap to pedal., the difference now is that my lap steel ( or one of them ) is in C6. so I have that pedal flavor.
at first the differnt tunings took time to get under control. now it doesnt matter. just one note or chord and I have my reference point.

in fact, playoing in several open tunings and with several instrum, ents involved has given me a deeper undertanding of intervals.

I am a better player for it. so my head tells me that you should follow your desire and play a lap steel.
also, there are so many tunings one will suit you perfectly. just look for them and listen.
