Not much going on Gerald, it's snow sculptures - the closest building is a model of the old-time storage houses ("stabbur") found at inland farms, while the one at the back is a model of the very special wooden churches from the medieval ages ("stavkirke"). I have no idea what the sculpture in the middle is supposed to be.....
Unfortunately, at the southern coast line where I live, the winter is rarely as beautiful as this (it was when I grew up though...), but more like what you describe from Michigan.
Here's a Norwegian stabbur:
And here's a very beautiful "stavkirke":

Steinar those pictures are gorgeous. My wife and I have traveled throughout Norway,
and think it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world … the fjords, glaciers, mountains, streams, lakes, and beautiful greenery..
Also I have met several very interesting steel guitarist from Scandinavia at Hawaiian Steel Guitar conventions.

Is it not a replica of the Matterhorn in Switzerland?
Gerald paints a dismal picture of SE Michigan. But over in SW Michigan (when I used to live there), we would have over 100 inches a year in snowfall and it would keep covering up that ugly mess. That is in the city; but out in the Michigan countryside the snowfall is undisturbed and it is beautiful.
Have yourself a Merry, Merry Christmas.
Mele Kalikimaka,
Don

The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is definitely white. This is a view from my kitchen table. Merry Christmas to all!
