Well, gonna go see Ben Keith in Spokane on Oct. 20 
...with that guy with the bushy sideburns that plays rhythm guitar for him, Neil Young

Neil Young launches a North American tour on October 18th in Boise, Idaho, two days after the release of his new album, Chrome Dreams II, on Reprise Records.
Concerts continue until December 13 in New York, and include two nights at the historic Massey Hall in Toronto, Canada, the site of early legendary shows by the eclectic singer-songwriter.
The new album features eight new and two classic Young songs. Recorded last summer in Northern California, musicians include Ben Keith (pedal steel guitar, dobro and other instruments), Ralph Molina (drums) and Rick Rosas (bass), who will all be performing in concert with Young.
Pegi Young, Neil's wife, is opening artist on the tour. She released her debut album last summer, followed by a series of shows in Northern California and New York. |

| Ben Keith has always been a favorite player of mine. What great steel guitar solos he played on some of Faron Young's recordings. He also played on some of Patsy Cline hits. A great player. Glad to see he is still at it. Bobby |

I'd be guessing but I'd say late 60s, maybe older; he played steel on Patsy Cline's first Decca session, cutting "I Fall to Pieces" Nov. 16, 1960.
Ben's resume is quite wide-ranging: he's played/recorded with - among others - Patsy Cline, Faron Young, Ian & Sylvia, Emmylou Harris, and he of course has played on numerous Neil Young albums, including the seminal "Harvest", later produced Jewel's first album and is still going strong as Neil Young's bandleader

as a teen I saw him in the eighties with fiddle and steel on the international harvesters tour. that was wild...twenty thousand people in the cleveland coliseum expecting to hear "Like a Hurricane" and getting "Are you Ready for the country?" instead. haha.

Well, what can I say...tonight in Spokane, saw the one and only Neil Young in concert with Ben Keith on...
dobro, that cool S10 wood neck push-pull Emmons that I think he played on the "Harvest" album, a Ricky bakelite (he killed with it on "Tonight's the Night"), plus some tasty stuff on B3, background vocals throughout - he even slung on a Tele for a bunch of songs and rocked out on Neil's goldtop on "Cinnamon Girl"
btw, the mix was amongst the best I've heard!

| Are his US shows also that expensive? He played some solo acoustic shows in Germany a couple of years ago with ticket prices starting at 110 EUR (160 USD). I thought that was an insult to his fans. Since then my enthusiasm has cooled down a bit... |

I saw Ben in November of '59 in Porterville, CA playing the first ShoBud I ever saw with Faron Young. Skeeter Davis and June Carter was also on the bill with a very young Donny Young (Johnnie Paycheck) playing bass.
Ben was quite a hansome guy reminding me of the actor Dale Robertson of western fame. |
