I need someone if possible to send me an E13th 8 string tuning where I can hear it to make sure I'm doing it right. If you could record it on a MP3 and e-mail it to me, that would be absolutely peachy! When doing it please call out the string verbally before you play it so I'll know where you are. I'm new to this tuning and right now totally in the dark. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
The Nixter

Which E13th do you want ?
There is the Old Hawaiian E13th E-C#-G#-E-D-B-G#-E
or the Newer E13th E-C#-B-G#-F#-D~B-E
or the Country E13 G#-E-C#-B-G#-E-D-(E or B)
Or one of the MANY variations.
It depends what style of music you want to play and where you intend to source your tab (If any).

Baz,
Let's go with the Country E13th making the 8th string tuned to B.

Thanks, Nick

Nick;
I think you would like the sound of the Country E9/13 w/Low-E better. That's te one I used on my Fender T–8 Custom. It gives the sound a lot more Body!

E13th is almost identical to C6th. If you go up 4 frets on C6th, you'll be in E.

Check out this "slide-rule". The two identical lines are the 12 chromatic notes (low to hi). I just shifted the bottom line, to line up the C-note with the E-note on the top line.

_____________v_____v_____v_____v________v_____v________v_______________
==E13==C..C#.D..Eb.E..F..F#.G..G#.A..Bb.B..C..C#.D..Eb.E..F..F#.G..G#.A
==C6th=G#.A..Bb.B..C..C#.D..Eb.E..F..F#.G..G#.A..Bb.B..C..C#.D..Eb.E..F..F#
_____________^_____^_____^_____^________^_____^________^__________________
You'll see that E-C#-B-G#-E-D becomes C-A-G-E-C-Bb.

Nick- Here is one I used for many years. top to bottom.
E-C#-B-G#-F#-D-B-G#.

I always wished I had 9 strings to put that low E on as John Bechtel mentioned. However the bottom 4 strings gives a nice E9 and a Bminor 6th, the top 4 gives a nice E6 and C# minor 7th, 1-3-4 strings EMaj, sometimes when I want more versatility for that tuning, I RAISE the 2nd string from C# to D. It is easy to do when needed for certain songs. that way you also get a D diminished ,. very nice , also a nice straight E7 th. and a higher B miner 6th played a lot of tunes on my set list on my Website with that tuning....Go Linda, Go...
Merry Christmas.....al

Which of these E13's is the Tom Morrell version? (I think that would be what Johnny Cox is using also.)

Bill -

Tom Morrell's E13th is
a ten-string, not eight.

Thanks ~Russ. So how is Tom's 10 string tuned? Apologies for hijacking the original thread, I guess.

Bill, according to Andy Volk's "Lap Steel Guitar" book, it's (low to high):

E D E F# G# B C# E F# G#
