If you are talking about the 1st string on the E-9 tuning, I raise the string to g#. I half pedal the lever to get the g. Works for me. I also lower the 6th string to F#. Half pedal it for the g. |

They are both very useful changes, the issue is where they are placed.
Lowering 6 DOES NOT belong on the same lever as Raise 2 and Raise 1, it is a MUSICAL CONFLICT.
My opinion...
I personally pull 7 UP on the lever with Raise 2 and 1, and want to drop 6 but have not found the right place to do it.
I spoke with two builders about why this is a common configuration on new Steels at St Louis and they both said the exact same thing...
the answer was, "Not sure, I think Buddy did this a while back and it kinda stuck"
try this
D7 chord on 3rd fret, string 6,5,4, Ped B and E lower lever...while playing that chord pull 1 up a full tone...
good luck if 6 drops...
try this
NP any fret...
6,5,4,1, then raise 1
good luck if 6 drops
Countless opportunities to raise that 1st string for embellishment...
limited opportunities to raise it with the 6 drop on the same lever... |

I like to lower 6 to F#. Let's call that lever L. Now when you lower the E strings to D# (call that D) with the L lever, you get a 5 chord.
For example.
3~~3DL~~3D~~3BD would go from G to D to D7, all at one fret.
Or try this...
10AB~~8A~~8DL walks from G down to G with a cool passing chord sound.
I have L and the first string raise on LKR. I don't have a 2nd string raise but I would put that on the same lever if I had it.
No need for a raise on 7 because you can get the same sound on 6 by lowering 6 before you pick it - then let off of the L lever. _________________ Gary Shepherd
