I don't own one, but I love the fat, sweet tone of Canopus guitars. I'd like to get that tone out of my PSG, but I've had no luck no matter how many tone knobs I twist on a Peavey Nashville 1000. I've read Maurice Anderson's and others' posts on tone, but not helpful for what I'm trying to do.

Is there a secret in the Canopus's pickup or body materials that I could transfer to my PSG? Maybe order a pickup and have it installed?

And is it safe to assume that this brand of guitar is popular with the Japanese population of steelers?

AFAIK, the Canopus steels either have two pickups, or a single pickup placed farther away from the bridge than on many other steels - and fat and sweeet tone is typical for neck pickups, so you might try to get one mounted on your PSG, if that is possible.

What about a pickup on a sliding mount, with 4--6 inches of travel?

I own a D-8 CANOPUS and really, I find it difficult to define the tone. All I know is, that compared to my FENDER CUSTOM T-8, the tone of the CANOPUS is fatter and more to my liking. One of my students has a Canopus single p/u single 8 which to me, has an even better tone than my D-8 with its duo p/u's. Go figure !
I don't know how many Japanese play CANOPUS, however many of the leading steel players in Hawai'i seem to prefer the product. FWIW.
