Here's a photo of a great musician, Rick Price. In case you haven't heard him, check out Bobby Flores' recordings, and also Jake Hooker's recordings. Rick has got to be one of the best players around with a distinct and unique style all his own. If you want to hear some beautiful and masterful playing then check him out. You won't be disappointed.

| I try to copy Rick's style on several songs that he recorded with Bobby Flores. He now plays full time with Jake Hooker if I'm not mistaken. A great steel player indeed.... |

| Glad to see Rick is finally getting some long overdue recognition.....first heard him about 1980 on the "Live At Dancetown USA"album when it was originally issued....have been a big fan since then.He really does have a unique playing style along with many great sounding and tasteful licks....always has great tone regardless of whether you listen to his playing as recorded or at a live job...and his choice of guitar and amp doesn't seem to matter either....a true master of the pedal steel!! |

Rick Price is a great player. I first got to know Rick when he was with Johnny Bush in the early 70's and have admired his playing ever since. Rick is a gentleman and a good guy. Rick tells me he really enjoys playing with Jake and the guys. Keep up the good work , buddy.

| Rick Price is one playin' @#%$&*. Rick and I have never met but I have always enjoyed his playing very much. It doesn't get any better than the live Johhny Bush album, now on CD. I wish we could pick a few sometime and see if i could keep up. Rick you are a jewel. Bobby |

| Yes..Mike..many of us here in upstate NY..know Ricky Price. I understand he is now in San Antonio. We still have one of his close friends still here in Rochester,,Jerry Johnson..who keeps in touch with Ricky. Jerry is a great player, one of the best we have ever had here, I might add..lack of work for us..and poor health is slowly taking its toll on our great players...a sad situation to say the least. Say a big " Hello " from us; to Ricky if you see him..from all his old friends in Upstate NY.. |

I'd say that my friend Rick isn't so much under-rated as he is under-recognized, because he keeps such a low profile publicly, and doesn't attend very many steel shows. No, he just goes about the business of playing FANTASTIC steel guitar in the great traditional ways we all love here.
His work on the new Jake Hooker recording is just superb.
And does he ever find the guitars people want! He's supplied so many of the Austin/San Antonio players with great guitars, vintage Emmonses... from '64 wraparounds through 66 bolt-ons... that we all owe him a debt of gratitude around here.
I need to be taking some lessons from him, seriously.

I recall the first time I had ever heard Rick Price play. We (my wife and I) walked into Pearls Dance Hall in Fort Worth, Texas one night and I heard the clearest, cleanest tone, brightest sound I had ever heard coming out of a steel, as I approached the side of the band stand I observed a clean cut, tie wearing steel player that was playing his butt off. My friend Chuck Cusimano was also standing there watching Rick play shaking his head at the sound and the man that was making that sound.
I vowed then and there that Rick Price would be one of my all time favorite steel players. At break I introduced myself and Rick was kind enough to take the time to explain everything he had going on there on the stage i.e. steel, amp settings etc...Not only is he an all time great steel player (Yes Mike I agree with you, one of the most underrated players of all time) he's a super nice man and is a leader by example by his dress, demeanor, and his playing style...We got home at about 2:00 a.m. I headed straight for the music room and played for about an hour after we got home, trying to hit some of the licks I watched Rick perform that night....Rick Price your a hell of a steel player... |

Tamara, the first photo with Bobby Flores is another time and place. I believe that was taken at Tommy Detamore's Cherry Ridge recording studio, and I'm not sure what kind of steel Rick is playing in that photo (possibly the Zumsteel he used to own?). On the cruise he is playing his green lacquered Emmons through a Fender amplifier.

Rick owns 2 guitars at the present time. He has a 66 bolt on, and a 70's wood neck push pull which is seen in the photo. He plays the 66 through a small cabinet Evans Amp built in the 80's and the other guitar he likes the sound of the Steel King. He uses very little delay and that's about it. He is a great player and I am proud to say my steel guitar teacher.

I have a Johnny Bush CD with a song called "When It's Your Turn To Fall".Does anybody know if Rick Price is playing on it.It is some really nice playing,and a great tone.What kind of equipment does Rick use.

| Several years ago I was doing a 5 niter at one of the hotels in Kerrville. There was another band in another hotel and as we closed at 12MN, we would go listen to their last set. Rick Price came out to work with them on Sat. nite and after hearing Rick, I wanted to go pack my steel up and go home. I had not seen Rick since his Johnny Bush days. I just can't find words to describe his touch, tone and execution. You will have to go see and hear Rick to understand what I mean. Jody. |
