Hi gang I just got my first Rickenbacker.
I had a question as to the gain of the pick ups.
They seem to be about half of the gain of my Fender 8.
Also I was wondering where to look for a # to identify the year it was made. I will try to post some pics soon.
Thanks. Dan.

Hi Dean,

You may want to have those pickups refurb'ed by either Rick Aiello and/or Jason Lollar.

The horseshoe pickups on my Rick console (now for sale on forum) put out a big bandwidth of sound. No problem there.

I saw your "transaction" on the Buy & Sell ...

From the sellers description ... the pickups are not "horseshoes" ...

quote:
I've never seen a horse shoe magnet. These pickups have a hand rest over them but no slot.

The pickups have a screw under each string for adjustment, I suppose.

THe picture shows the first Rick frypan and the last Rick model.

Someone in the know might clue me in about a Horseshoe magnet. I don't want to misrepresent this guitar.

If it has "screw type" adjustable pole pieces ... the screws themselves may be cunife (copper-nickel-iron) magnets ... or there is (are) bar magnets feeding "juice" to the steel screw pole pieces.

First try bringing the pole pieces up to the point where they buzz the strings with a bar placed at about the 15th fret ... then back them down "a hair" ... till the strings "just clear" ...

Slight adjustments in height can make a huge difference.

If that don't help ... we'll talk about remagin' them ... after I see a photo.
