I have a friend who has just been offered a Remmington Pedal Steel , and asked my opinion.I have to say that I know nothing about this make( although I obviously know of Herb himself) but would think that alone would suggest a high quality instrument.Would appreciate any comments from anyone who has one or has had one in the past. Thanks Malcolm |

The older Remington pedal steels were not very consistent in the design, materials, and workmanship. Even though they may be well made and pretty to look at, the pedals need to be carefully checked to make sure that they operate accurately and you can tune them. All of his guitars have a very good full sound.
His newer pedal steels are much better in design, and workmanship. Maybe other forum members have some experience with them to share.
Thanx,
Jim |

Malcolm, A buddy of mine in Norway, Arild Kvenseth, has a Remington and he loves it for sound and workmanship. It is the newer kind.
I even have a clip that he did on a home recording. I say it is a great sound.
Maybe if I could get your email address, I could attach the clip and send to you.
regards
Bent |

Hello MALCOLM,
Herb Remington ended the psg production a few years ago. Remington only makes Non-Pedal Steel Guitars. |

A good friend of mine in Ct. has a Remington and I consider it to be a very well made guitar. They share a lot of undercarriage parts with the Fessenden Guitars. I seem to remember someone saying these were built by Bobby Bowman for a while, but I may be mistaken. |

I had a red D-10 I bought 4 or 5 years ago from St. Louis. I really took a beating on it just to get rid of it after a few months. |

The laquer Remmington's I've seen feel very rough, almost like they weren't sanded well before the laquer was applied. They sound OK but not to my taste.

Well Jim i agree. I have a 90s model and i can not keep it in tune. Mine is sort of built like a BMI underneath it. Has the flat bar style cross rods. Wish i can sell it but i have tried. i guess the new remingtons steels are better made. I dont know. Never seen a new one. i was told by my friend that he quit making pedals because of design. dont know for sure.He does make pretty good lap steels when he is not very busy.

Malcom, i believe herb got out of the pedals and stayed with the lap steels. he wanted to keep it simple. i was told he dont make pedals anymore, because he understood the lap steel way better. I know he can sure play the fire out of a c6TH. thats where he is most remembered. Pedals are very complicated to build. |

Actually, I think Herb's main claim to fame is the stuff in A6. Including his pedal tuning.
