Hello People of the Steel Guitar Forum

As a new member of this forum, I'd like to introduce myself.
My name is Bernhard (Nickname is Ben) and I'm from Germany. Thanks to the administrator "b0b" who made it possible for me to join the Forum.
My English is not that good, so please excuse me for the way I'm writing in English. Maybe I miss practise in that way.

Why I'm here:

My father bought Aug. 1973 a Steel Guitar from MSA Model: CD-12 "Classic"
It was stored about 27 Years downstairs in the cellar and I thought it's time to put it together again.

I'm looking for a spare part for the case of the Steel guitar, because after this long time of storing it, the inside of the transport case went bad.
Can anybody help me?

This part of the case is worse. In Germany we call it "Schaumstoff", maybe it's foamrubber? I don't know the correct word for it.

Hello Ben, welcome to the forum. I think you will find lots of good advice here (and your English is quite good). That's a nice MSA D-12 guitar, I have one very similar, they last forever. Foam rubber is correct. That material disintigrates with time (people who collect old cameras are all too familiar with it). There is no ready made replacement that I'm aware of. I have two suggestions. You could buy some foam rubber of the right thickness at a sewing supply store or department store, cover it with fabric, and glue it in. Another fix would be to use some nice thick carpet. Anything soft that protects the guitar will work. I'm sure you'll get lots of other suggestions.
Best Regards

Yeah, what a great idea! That's an easy option and very practible to solve the problem.
A piece of thick carpet will surely last longer than a protection with foam rubber.

Thanks a lot fot the tip!

Ben, congrats on the MSA. That's a terrific guitar...and a D-12 at that!! It looks like it's in beautiful condition.

As to replacing the disintegrated foam, I'd suggest using new foam instead of carpet. You need the cushioning of the foam to protect the guitar. Carpet will protect it, but it doesn't have the springy, protective, nature of foam.

If you check with a road case company (like Anvil)in your part of the world, they should be able to sell you a sheet of it that you can cut to fit the case. A web search for "Closed cell Polyethylene Foam" could also get you some contacts. Contact adhesive will hold it in place just fine.

Thank you Mike!

Yes, it is in good condition, because my father played only 2 years with this steel guitar (that was 1974-1975). After he stopped playing in his Band "The Evergreens", he gave it to me for storing.

About spare parts in Germany:
It's not that easy to get spare parts of steel guitars here in GER.
I lost the guitar slide, and even this simple part I have to order in the Untited States.

I will check with a road case company (like Anvil),
thanks for the information.
