TW do you have a particular sound in your head that you compare your guitars to. A Bud, a PP, a ZB all have their own sound and once we fall in love with one of them we tend to hold other guitars hostage.
New guitars may play much better and be more versitile in their ability to change copedants, but because they do not sound like that idea we carry in our heads we keep looking, in many cases.
Thanks

Larry,
Lately, I've been digging Jimmie Day's tone on the "All Those Years" album from the 70s. There are so many tones I like. I'm not really married to any single tone. I will say, I'm fond of the 1970's steel guitar sounds.
It seems today's pedal steels, although mechanically perfected, have less of an identifiable tone or character with just a few exceptions. That is why I really like the new MSA Legend. It has a traditional wood body, aluminum necks and quick change pick ups....capable of the tones I like. |

Larry,
I just realized the redundancies in my reply in relating to your post .
In answer to you original question, yes, I am looking for a certain tone in regards to a starting point. I look for depth, width, clarity and balance. It seems after that , it's just a matter of dialing in what ever tone suits the song or situation. |

Hi Tommy,
What amps were you using on the Music City Tonight shows in the 90's? I have a friend here in town who recored some of those shows and your tone was great. Not to mention all of the different cool guitars you were playing on each show.

Tommy,
I don't mean to put you on the spot, but would you tell us the exceptions, in your opinion?
Thank you.

That's something-I just pulled this album out and gave it a listen a few days ago-produced on Scotty's "Midland" label with liner notes by B.E. |

Trap,
How nice. Thank you. I was using an Evans fet500 small cab when we started Music City Tonight in October 1993. By the end of 1995 I began using the Webb 6-14 steel guitar amp.
Mitch,
Not a chance . |
