I know these pedals are pretty new, but they seem promising. Has anyone had any experience with them?

I picked up a FDR a couple days ago to juice up a Roland Cube 30. I was expecting to take it back but I like it a lot. I can dial in a big, fat sound with decent reverb. I haven't fooled with getting an overdriven sound yet, that's really not why I bought it.

I had the Bassman version and was very pleased with it. I used it kind of like a second channel. Into my Vox AC15 it gave me a great option for a different tone.

So they seem pretty nice. I'll have to get one soon.

I'd noticed that a lot of the reviewers who didn't like it were upset that they couldn't get a good ultra-OD tone, which made me think they might not know what they were talking about. Thanks for confirming that for me!

Hey Johnny, the over drive tone sounds much like a Deluxe cranked. If you're lookin for more OD or fatter tone, maybe the bassman unit would suit you better.
Did you check out the demos on the Boss site? Smile PJ

Yeah, I have, but you can't tell much from them; I'd really have to try one and fiddle with it to see what it can do.

Sorry, I didn't quite make myself clear earlier. I meant that if they wanted crazy OD tone, then they're better off getting some kind of heavy metal stompbox. These seem more like amp modelers than distortion pedals, which I think is a lot more interesting.

I tried the FDR-1 recently and was very disappointed. I only played it through a Epiphone Les Paul going in to a Valve King and the pedal itself had very little headroom. They were a lot of interesting OD variations, but it completely eliminated the "directness" I like so much with tube amps. I also liked the reverb, the tremolo was ok, but nothing to write home about IMHO.

Seriously, I liked a lot of the Fender sounds of my old POD 2.0 much better.

I have one and like it...but it isn't really a "Deluxe Reverb". Sounds like that don't come in a box and I don't think that it is really possible to make any other amp sound like another unless the box and a speaker are real close.

That aside, I do like the pedal for a "combo box"; a little overdrive when needed, a different flavor of reverb and a quick tremelo for those nights that we play Silver Wings. The biggy is that like on another thread here, is that you have a separate "pre amp" for guitar; you can set your steel up as usual and have a little drive and tone control for the guitar, making the use of one amp a little more practical.

Another thing is that there is really no signature clean FDR signal...the box has a slight driven sound even at the lowest gain settings.

All in all, I like it and will continue to play guitar through it but it wont make a Micro Cube or a Session 400 sound like a Deluxe Reverb.

I'm with Martin and Tom on this - I was going to buy one as a graduation gift. But I took it home, tried every which way to get a good DR clean tone, and gave up and bought him a new Pod 2 instead, which he also likes much better. The pushed sounds are fine, but I wasn't at all happy with the clean sounds, even run through a clean, flat-EQ power amp with a very Hi-Fi speaker.

IMO, the Deluxe Reverb model on my old-version Pod 2.0 blows these both away, to my tastes. So much so that I was moved to open a thread on the changes in the Pod 2. I have a BF Deluxe Reverb to A/B with, and I have fooled several skeptics in listening tests - gentlemen, choose your weapon:

I tried both of them yesterday with a Tele at a local music store. They didn't impress me at all, to be honest. The vibrato in the Deluxe was atrocious. I couldn't dial much in. I wouldn't buy either one.

For $100 you can get a Digitech RP150 or a Behringer V-Amp 2 that will blow these things out of the water - adjustability, versatility, tone(s). POD has a new "Pocket POD" for $130 that can probably do the same. I believe that the world of boutique-y, "collectible" pedals is heading towards being a much smaller club, a few rich guys trading their old stuff back and forth. When Behringer is selling their TO800 pedal with the exact same chip and diodes that made an old "Tube Screamer" worth imitating for $30, rather than the $200+ the boutique guys get - oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

That's okay Mark, it'll never leave this room Very Happy .

I really do like mine as well for the above stated reasons...it lets me play steel and guitar through the same amp with a little control over the guitar tone and the effects that I would normally use.

But nobody really thought they were going to get a Deluxe Reverb for $145 bucks did they? I learned that lesson from a Charles Atlas ad in a comic book several years ago...the seven days are long past and I'm still getting sand kicked in my face Wink .

I'm not really experiened with recording but it may sound like a FDR on tape.

I have a Deluxe Reverb here too but it's a little much for around the house. The FDR gave the Roland a nice fat sound and better reverb than the amp has.
Thanks for keeping my dirty little secret hush hush Cool

I've got some sea monkeys coming in the mail. They will be my best friends and pets! Then I'll get me some x-ray specs.....

I was interested in this pedal a while ago as a multi-purpose preamp with rev & trem to put in front of a Crate Powerblock but I couldn't get past the near-unanimous Harmony Central negatives on the reverb (this would have replaced a Holy Grail and a tremolo pedal). It's interesting to read the contrary opinions on the reverb here. On the other hand, if it can't do clean, then I don't know that it would serve my purposes. (I, too, have a DR so I know what great sound sounds like)

I found this topic in a search so I know that it's kind of run it's course a bit already, but,--- I didn't see this question discussed in a direct way so here goes...

If you run this pedal with the gain set to minimum and the level set with no boost, can the pedal warm up/fatten, the tone of a soild state amp? Or, does even the cleanest of clean tones of the pedal still posess a bit of boost/drive?

I ordered one a couple of weeks ago, played around
for a couple of hours with it. It just wasn't for me. Had no problem returning it.
