I just got my copy of Mike and Teriney's CD in the mail and I've been listening to it all day long. Mike's tone and touch are magnificent and "T" sings with such emotion and passion that's such a breath of fresh air nowadays...(is nowadays one word or not?) Oh well, I'm from Kentucky so I guess it's "awright I 'reckon"!
I remember the first time I ever heard of Mike Smith....me and my late, dear friend Jerry Taylor were playing at different clubs across the street from each other and he finished up at 1:30a.m. and I finished up at 2:00a.m. Well, one night after I had finished, he and I were sitting at a table and he said..."well tomorrow's the last day of the steel convention in St. Louis". And I said "Wish we could be there". He said..."If we can use your car I'll pay all the speeding tickets".
We got to St. Louis (no speeding tickets) and settled in for a day of steel guitar wizardry. I had just taken up the steel guitar and Jerry told me..."You're either gonna want to go home and practice your @$$ off or you're gonna want to make kindling out of your steel guitar".
Well, after being up all day long on Saturday, playing 4 sets of crappy music Saturday night, driving 9 hours to St. Louis and listening to steel guitar music all day long on Sunday... the only "cassette tape" we came away with was Mike Smith's "Dreams of India". We listened to it half way back to Kentucky before we found a hotel roon that wasn't booked up.
Mike had the tone and approach to the steel guitar that I was wanting to achieve. I spent many hours trying to dig out the parts to "Brown Baggin'". Still diggin'...but the hole is only getting deeper!
I finally got the chance to meet Mike out in Phoenix last year and we got to sit down and have some lunch...or was it Coconut Cream Pie!... We talked shop for a while and he had to be on his way to another booking so he didn't stay for our show. (Thank God!!!...I'd have been a nervous wreck). We traded phone numbers and e-mail addresses and I was pleasantly surprised when he e-mailed me about the new CD.
If you love steel guitar and great singing and every kind of music you can think of....then you HAVE to get this CD! You won't be disappointed. I listen to it all the time.
I'm gonna give Mike's web address and I hope he doesn't mind. I'll bet you can order a CD from there. It's called "The Mike & T Cafe". I'll bet you can even order the "Dreams of India" CD from there also. It has a few extra "goodies" that weren't on the "cassette" version I think.
The website is....www.mikeandt.com
Mike is one of the best players you'll ever hear. Not only steel but keyboards too! And together, he and "T" have a great thing going. I think you'll agree.
My Best to Mike & "T",
Tim Sergent |

Tim - I ditto your comments. The Mike & T Cafe CD is tops in my book as well as Dreams of Inida! I'm still trying to convince some of our local venues to scrape up the bucks and bring them in. Maybe if I started a petition...
Awesome player - so unique. I can't see how anyone would be disappointed with this CD in their collection! _________________ Miss Lana

Great couple to boot. They could probably use the break from that nasty Phoenix heat. Whjen I lived there, Mike always had time for conversation between sets, on the phone or email. Can't say enought good stuff about em' . A real natural player in my eyes.

Tim I must agree with you and everyone else. Mike and T are super folks and even greater musicians.
T just sings like a bird and is one wonderful person to know.
And of course Mikie is in a class all his own on the steel guitar, one unique player!!
I'm very proud to call them both my friends. _________________ Email: azpedalman@gmail.com
