I've been watching the Ralph Emery Show on RFD TV every Monday and he had Gene Watson on talking about his new CD "In a Perfect World." Gotta get that. He is such a super singer and I can't figure out why he is not a superstar. (Well, he is to me) |

A few years ago Gene was riding high with several big hits. I always enjoyed his brand of country. When "Farewll Party" comes on the radio my volume knob goes up. |

I think Gene was one of the old brought down by the new producers. Too bad. He ahs a great voice: i.e. Farewell Party. _________________ A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

My volume goes up, so does my stereo and so do my car windows.
Well, in a perfect world everyone would have a copy. He's been on The Opry Live recently singing a cut with Ronda Vincent. Now I can't recall what country standard they did together. Anyone? _________________ HagFan

I think the cd is released next week. Gregg Galbraith plays lead, along with Sonny Garrish on steel. |

Gregg who?
Thanks Bill. I knew it was one that featured Corky Owens hiding under his hat. _________________ HagFan

Gene's "Can't Get Used To Getting Over Her Again" really gets my attention. The man has a great voice for those types of songs and no one else can duplicate them when they sing the same songs. |

Imo Gene is one of the best country singers we have left today,The same with Dale Watson, these two guys are light years ahead of most [so-called]country singers around today.Even tho Gene has had modest sucess over the years, never could understand why he never reached the so called superstar status, don't you know. _________________ Hard headed, opinionated old geezer. I agree totally about the greatness of Gene Watson . But I've always thought the musicianship and arrangements on alot of his records was kind of bland and didn't do his voice justice . I've always wanted to see to him go with a harder honky-tonk sound . |

I've always thought that Gene had some of the best arrangements that was made. A lot of his songs has signature licks that you know what the song is, just by listening to the "intro" or "ride". Such as Farewell Party, Got No Reason Now For Going Home, Getting Over You Again, Raising Cane in Texas, etc. Gene's always had the best musicians in his band also. He's just never got the superstardom that he deserves! Ray _________________ Ray Qualls

I think what I meant to say was that his music has always been a little over-produced , too polished. Even so , he's one of the greats. My favorite Gene Watson song is actually an buried cut from one of his 90s albums . "Mirrors Don't Lie" . The power of his vocals gives me goosebumps ! |

Charlie, I don't think "light years ahead" is necessarily the best choice of words. They're not ahead, or behind, anybody.
They just actually sound like country singers. _________________ Mark |
