Maestro Emmons mentioned this as one of his favorite all time solos... Jerry Byrd playing with Ferlin Husky.
Does anyone have an mp3 of this cut or even just the solo they're willing to share... I've never heard it and would like to.
TIA |

"The Waltz you saved for me", another one that Ferlin sang backup to JB. I get cold chills just thinking about it.

Allan and Bill; I'd appreciate an MP 3 of both your JB songs; Jerry was my number 1 mentor. I really loved his back-up on the Hank Williams recordings, which he did on occasion. The song mentioned by Ernie Ashworth sounds like a winner, too.. Thanks a million, Allan and Bill. Here's a great one: The original recording of Charlie's Shoes" by Billy Walker, recorded April 21, 1061, with Jerry Byrd on steel:
http://www.lloydgreentribute.com/AustrianSteelguitar/Forum.htm
On November 20, 1961, the song was re-recorded w/o Jerry's steel (he played bass on that session), the is the version that made the charts. I still prefer Jerry's steel over Billy's whistling...
Kind Regards, Walter _________________ www.lloydgreentribute.com |

Bernie,
I cannot find it on my computer, I remember sending it to someone, don't remember who. Maybe they will see this post, and send it to you, and me. I may have it on a CD somewhere...still looking.

Walter...
thanks for posting this. I just listened and was amazed(once again) at the mastery of Jerry Byrd. I had only heard the version with Billy whistling and this is far better. You would almost swear he was playing a pedal guitar, but we know of course that Jerry didn't do that. Just listening to the rich sounds and fat chords makes you wonder why any of us need pedals. Of course there was only one Jerry. |

Bill; I have to agree with you on this one hundred per cent; Some of the best playing on Jerry's part; it also made me wonder if he wasn't working on a pedal guitar. Only the fingers of the Master could produce such grand sounds, and done on a 7 string Rickenbacker.
I'm glad that Walter found this one in his archives.. Mighty good listening.. Regards, Bernie _________________ 2007 Zum S-10; 1967 Sho-Bud [ D-10 ]; 85 S-10 Sierra; 1953 Multi-Kord [ 6 String- 4 pedals ] A Sho-Bro six String Resonator Guitar; Nashville 112 Amp; hilton Vol. Pedal |
