Do monitors loose their "brightness" over time? Actually, everything seems okay, except sometimes an on-line video will be darker in background (I have my monitor set to 98% bright, too). My monitor is a Dell, and is 7 years old.

I put a CD full of digital camera pics today, and many of the picture have a darker background. I figured it was bad/low lighting/camera isssues...however, I took the disc to work and all those "low lighting" pics looked fine! That monitor is a flat screen, and probably only 3 years old.

So now I'm thinking, what makes those pics look bad on my monitor? Is it the monitor, or something in the data transfer (my system is also 7 years old)?

If I get a new monitor, would it solve the viewing problem, or are the JPEG files bad also?

Please help! Confused Confused Confused

If it's a CRT monitor most will start losing brigntness over time, just like a TV.

You MAY be able to compensate for the CRT brightness in your Video card settings (some video cards allow adjusting the "luminesence"). The video card can also contribute to brightness but it's mostly the actual monitor.
