I've found a used Rickenbacker 8-string that appears to be a fifties model that I've never seen before. Three legs, three knobs and one switch, horseshoe pickup, natural finish. Does anyone have any information/experience with these? Should I grab it?
Thanks,

Depending on the price, I'd say yes. It sounds like a CW-8 based on the description. These are very nice guitars. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

On the cover of "The Man of Steel" album by Jerry Byrd, Jerry proudly poses with a CW-8.

One recently went on ebay for over $700, I believe, which was a BARGAIN. _________________ Al

I have one.... I absolutely love it. Mine says "Jerry Byrd Deluxe" on it (eight string), and it is has speaker "grill cloth" on it's face, I believe to match the Rick amps sold at the time.
Let us know if you pick it up. _________________ Dave Wren

I recently bought the Jerry Byrd model with one 8 string neck, 3 legs, 1 vol control, 1 bass control,1 treble control on ebay for 700. This is the only rick 8 string guitar out of 3 or 4 different models I own with 8 pole pieces. On all the rest the lowest bass string is outside the pickup coil and the tone of the lowest string suffers for it. |
