Sonny, I don't think that's a Uni he's playing. I believe this might have been when he was playing a Sierra D-10. I think you can see the E-9 strings in front of his hands so he's on the C6th neck. Buddy's amazing! On any brand of guitar he plays, he sounds like him!..JH in Va.

I dont know but it looked to me like a Keyles Sierra and a S12 or a S14 universal.
...at any rate...he is still the grat Buddy Big E Emmons. He played a lot of very nice phrases that no one I heard ever play....He is a natural....al.SmileSmile

Buddy Emmons will sound like Buddy no matter which brand of steel guitar he plays. I know he had George L wind quite a few different PUs for him while he was playing a Sierra guitar.

I would really like to hear Buddy play a stock Fender 2000 to hear if he can get his signature sound by adjusting the controls on the amp. No TOYS included. Smile

I will tell you for sure that it was a D10 Keyless Sierra.
I did the sound and video for this show.

Sometime in the past, I recall Buddy mentioning he thought Sierra's were one of the best sounding C6th guitars. Aside from the signature Emmons tone, this vid proves that to be a pretty acurate accessment.

BTW: I believe this particular Sierra D10 was used on some of the Emmons/Pennington "Swingin" recordings.

Keep on pickin'!

I remember Buddy playing a white Sierra D-10 on the "Church Street Station" show on TNN when he was the staff steel player.

Very Fender-ish tone, don't you think? Awesome stuff!

Yes indeed Chris, very Fenderish. He doesn't sound at all like he does on a push/pull. Thats not his push/pull tone. I like it though.

It kind of makes a case for tone being inherent in the guitar.....but we don't need to go there. Very Happy

Chris, you and I would get along famously. There is a YouTube clip of E doing Nightlife on his push/pull. Different tone altogether.

In a conversation with Buddy at St. Louis this year he said he played a MCI guitar on the Step One Production recordings.
