Hi Rick,
I hope you don't mind me addressing you directly, but seeing how you've got Remington Steelmasters in both the 22.5" scale and the 24.25" scale (you lucky guy!) I think you're the man to ask:
Can you please describe the difference in tone and sustain, and ease of harmonics and intonation, betwen the two scale legnths on your Steelmasters? Does the 24.25" have an edge over the 22.5"?

Thanks very much,
Cliff

Cliff, I don't think it does. I know it's generally thought the longer scale has better tone, harmonics and sustain - but for me the T8 (22 1/2") has no deficiencies in these areas. There are other variables besides scale length that affect these parameters - hardware, wood, finish, and technique - to name a few. Maybe it's because the short scale T8 was made to my specs that I have an affinity for it. I don't actually play the D8 very much, the T8 can do everything I want it to. It has no shortcomings.
If you're used to a 24" scale as I believe you said in your other thread, maybe you should stick with it if you like it. But if you choose 22 1/2" you won't be sacrificing anything imo.
There's no wrong choice here, it's just a matter of personal preference. I started with short scale guitars (Fender Dual Pro & Champion) so I'm used to it.
You can trust Herb, talk to him about it some more. He certainly won't steer you wrong.
You'll be getting a great guitar no matter which scale you choose.
