And that's not a bad thing !!!
I told the wife last night that Jack Musgrave was going to be playing the “Barn Dance Show” in Silver Dollar City. We have never heard him play any place other than the Branson Jam session (Ozark Steel Guitar Association). This was easy to get her to go because she enjoyed his playing as much as I did.
We arrived for the first morning show at 10:30 a.m.. The place was set up with a huge dance floor and plenty of seating for spectators.
I must say the band was simply amazing and Jack said they were having a hard time because it was their first time together. These guys are all real pro’s and just needed to nod on any lead or singer accompanying parts. I thought I was the only one that noticed how great they were sounding until the couple sitting behind me said “My God, this sounds better than the records”!! …
Jack, that Emmons through the Vegas 400 was really singing today and I enjoyed it so much that I did not budge through all 3 shows.
If any of you are in the Branson Area and love great Swing, Country, Pop Ballads, Ray Price, and even some old 50’s rock then get on down and see these guys. The only artist they didn’t do was some Buck Owens but I bet they get to that tomorrow. Get there early like I did because you will want to see more than one show. Each show has entirely different songs and the musicians are really great and get into their pickin. I won't even mention the lead style of Lonnie Harper, you just have to see it to believe it. But be sure to talk to Lonnie, he has so many stories that will leave you laughing with tears. Lot’s of twin work and good harmonies. With real dominant singers like Eddie Asher and Jeannie Bryant it just drives the band to be the best they can be. I just wish I could see the shows for the next 3 days. |

Speaking of great steel guitar playing, I got the new CD Fred Lacy and the Matadores. Rick is the steel player. I think the whole CD is wonderful. Rick's playing is outstanding. The tone of your Kline guitar is great. My opinion, keep the Kline guitar, and sell your other guitars. My wife liked the CD so much she said it is now her CD. |

Keith, I had no idea that you and Beverly were into mariachi music.
You should try to get down and see these guys together at "The Barn". I could swear that a few of the tunes they even had 3 part harmonies on the instruments. Great showmanship too !!! |

Rick, thanks for coming to listen to the music and for the kind words. I am having a ball playing with all these great musicians. also thank your wife for taking pictures of the group. Keith, I was going to take my Hil Tone fuzz unit with me, but I was not sure if Silver Dollar City was ready for rock aand roll steel guitar yet. We still have 2 days left, so come on down. there are plenty of seats plus a good dance floor. each show is different songs |

Jack, Lonnie Harper is an old friend of mine and Gary. Ask Lonnie if he ever drank any Texas Butter Milks when he played at the old Pier 65 club in Branson. The last time I played with Lonnie was at a club in Kansas City, Kansas. Last time I played with Eddie Asher was a new year's dance in Cape Fair, Missouri. Robert Holt and Robert's son was there, with a bunch of other pickers. I havn't seen Doc Shaffer in years and years. The last time I saw Doc was at the Little Reno club in Springfield. Ask Doc if he ever played for Charlie Hall, Porter Waggoner's sister's boy. Charlie went to Huntsville prision for robbery, kidnapping, and shooting a Texas highway patrol. Rick, I need to have you show me one or two of those fancy things you played on Fred's CD. Wish I could play as good as good as both you guys can play. Just about everyone plays better than me, but I live trying. Jack, tell Lonnie, Eddie, and Robert something for me. Tell them I said to say away from using that dang "Tuning Fluid". It will rust your pipes. |
