Randy is the Steel player on Dottie Jacks CD(Texan in a Stetson)
Randys touch and tone are unbeleavable.
Lynn Owsley and Ralph Mooney are also on this CD. NUFF SAID.

Randy HAS been an old pro for many years. Famous for tone and an isperation to me to be a "tone nut".
Anytime you can hear him play won't be often enough!

I would be interested in what kind of equipment he uses. I'm usally not a tone nut but this guy's jumped out and grabbed me.

Bobbe it was great to finally meet you.

Bill, Randy plays a '65 Emmons that he's had forever and currently is using a nashville 1000. he's got a couple of rack mounted effects for delay and eq that he uses sparingly. he IS the tonemeister!!

Different strokes for different folks.

If I could play the way he can, I wouldn't care what my tone was! Razz

And in addition to Jody's mention of his piano prowess , Matlock and I heard him drum at Mingus. Incidently , not too many six piece bands have four steel players but Bobby's does.

I wish more would encourage Randy to do a CD with that Emmons. I just never get tired of listening to him; and I think that I'm a pretty good judge of talent.

What a CD, She is awesome and so is the music. I can't quit listening to it.
I would love to have a CD of Randy's. Maybe we can put some pressure on him here on the Forum Laughing

To me that's a hypothetical statement that makes no sense.

It also discounts the importance of tone in how listenable music with steel is.

Kudos to RR for not boarding the thinner-and-brighter-is-better bandwagon.

I've been playing every weekend with Randy for the last 2 1/2 years and every gig, at some point, he plays something that none of us had heard him do before and our socks come off! He's so inspiring that many times I will get home from the gig at 5am after a long drive and sit down at the steel for an hour trying to figure out one lick i heard him play. Not only that, but he's one of my favorite people in the world, so much fun to be around.
Oh, and to Mr. Jenkins, it would be more accurate to say Bobby's band has 3 world class steel players and one bumbling ham-fisted neophite steel player!Very Happy

I want to play just like him when I grow up. Every time he plays he says something.
