I have a dobro and I was told it was made in 1939. It is a dobro brand and I was also told it was made in Huntington beach Cal. Does anybody know if this is possible and maybe what it might be worth if I sold it. It is in very good condition. It is a square neck

Ronnie, does it have a serial number on the end of the headstock, and if so, what is it?

Measure the headstock. If it's 6" and has no serial number, it's most likely a prototype. If it's 6 1/4", it should have a serial number on the heastock. It will be worth more if it has not had a refinishing job. Pics?

This dobro had already been redone when it was given to me. The headstock is 6 1/4 but I cannot find a number on it.I do not have a camera to take pics, I need to get one.

If it's really a 1939, it wasn't California. Everything had moved to Chicago/Regal by 1936-7. Slotted headstock with straight-cut slots? California. Rounded-end slots? Chicago/Regal. Solid headstock? Most likely Chicago.

Any patent numbers on the cover plate? "Pat. Pend.?" Are coverplate screws at exactly 12:00 and 6:00 (etc.)? 1933 or earlier. (These moved slightly so that coverplate could be removed without having to remove the tailpiece.)
