Ran across this cute little thing.
Auction on eBay.
The only JC info I could find here was of one guy who was quite happy with their standard full-size lapsteel.
Has anyone tried one of their little uke lapsteels? I'm trying to rationalize getting it, but can't really think of any practical reason to do so. Dang, it is cute though.
Are uke-size lapsteels much good for anything, or just novelty?

Hmmm. This guy is trying to make something new. I doubt anyone here has played one of these. The scale length is real short at 17 inches. The strangest thing is that it only has four strings! I guess the inventor thought it should be tuned in ukulele tuning: g-C-E-A. |

Also interesting, they make a six string solid body electric lap steel guitar 22 1/2" scale length. They are made in Australia from Fijian mahogany.
They buy it now price is $259.

You can scroll down and see more pictures of the steel. It looks pretty nice, but how does it sound?

I like it. what a cool addition to slide playing and sounds. maybe because I have been playing the heck out of my ukulele this last month I see some very cool ideas coming out of that.
four strings is not a limitation. no. no.
I have a spare uke lying around. hmmm. |

I should specify, asking if anyone has tried playing lap-style on a uke in general. There are a couple clips of slide ukue up on YouTube that are pretty slick, but those are more guitarists who branches out into uke.
Neat little thing, but I don't think I can justify it over other projects I have in mind. I do hope it goes to someone who does cool YouTube clips with it. |

I've got to hold off on buying instruments for awhile... just sent my youngest son off to college.

It sounds like some more instrument storage room just opened up there. |

It did get a bid, which means I can breathe easy.
I'd told myself that I'd buy it if it got no other bids, since I'd hate to see such a cool idea go unrewarded, and I can think of a few fun things to do with it for upcoming projects.
He does have another one up, but fortunately I'm less drawn to a standard six-string, though novel it be in scale length: Auction on eBay.
However, the other eBay thread, with the 2x4 lapsteel, is causing me to yearn for scrap wood and some old componenents out of the junk bin. Need to go google up some plans for that, as even something that basic is ahead of my skill level (electrician-wise). |
