Folks,
Where is the serial number located on Postwar Rick B6's? Narrow pickup, tailpiece string anchor, creme covers, 'T' Richenbacher/ Elecro headstock logo.
Jus' learnin'.
Adios,

I've never seen a serial number on a postwar B, BD, Academy or Ace, maybe because I never looked for one on any that I don't own. I have an Ace and a BD6. Neither of mine have a serial number. The pot codes indicate the Ace was made in 1949 and the BD6 in 1951.
From what I've read, beginning in 1954 Rick began stamping the serial numbers on the jackplate or bridge when they began producing solid body guitars. So, I suppose the number could be in one of those places, if it was made in 1954 or later.
If you need the serial number to know when it was made, here are the production dates for postwar Bakelite models according to Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars:
Academy 1946-48
Ace 1948-53
B 1946-55
BD 1949-71
The only more accurate system is the pot codes.
Hope this helps. |

That pretty much confirms what I suspected. The pots are as such:
Centralab N102 250M6
AB 10034-41 2523 - CR -500M
This things definitely been a 'player', so these may not be original.
Has anybody noticed that there seems to be 2 distinct shades of 'white' paint on the covers? Some are 'refrigerator white', while others like mine are 'cream'. I don't think its just a case of 'paint fade'
Adios,
