With all the good, smooth Hawaiian steel players around during the "territorial" era, how did this guy get recorded on so many albums with well respected personnel?

...all due respect to his composing and musicianship, he is the choppiest Hawaiian steel player I have heard on record. His phrasing makes my skin crawl.

I just got a Japanese re-release of "HULA" which is an instrumental album featuring greats like Pua Almeida on guitar. Danny plays steel for most of the tunes. The steeling is so hard to listen to I was gonna toss it in the dumpster but thought maybe somebody here might want it.

Perhaps it's just that particular album. I have 4 Danny Stewart albums and I enjoy his playing on all of them.

It's a shame you have one of Danny's records you do not enjoy.
I used to tease Eddie Lund about the terrible steel players he has in Tahiti and then I got his "Polynesia" with some great playing on it. I asked who played steel for him, "Danny Stewart." Did he back Alfred Apaka on "My Hawaiian Song Of Love?" Jeff, the last time we were over there I was talking to Harold Hakuole about Jules playing on the Alfred Apaka Show which used to be broadcast later and the complete absence dowm here of tapes with his playing on Hawaii Calls and he said they were still around. Any ideas where to try? I have fragments of each and I just drool at his
playing and wish - if only.
