| Does anybody know where I can go to buy a nut for my Harmony lap steel It's 2" long the gap is a little more than an eighth. I would like to find something metal like I have in my old gibson. |

Get a piece of aluminum, a flat file, and a hacksaw and make one the same shape as your old one.  Billy |

Here's what I would do....
a search in no peddlers to learn more about the nut
a thread in the wanted to buy section of the forum
look on ebay, there's always a possibility of something like this turning up.
go to a local machine shop. it can be made.
look in the pedal steel section. the guys there are into fabricating all kinds of metal parts for all kinds of functions, and do a search.
contact Bobbe Seymore and Ricky Davis. they will not post silly pictures but they will certainly steer you in the right direction. |

I just read in the NY Times that over in Russia the ground is thawing and th frozen sea is receding (melting) revealing tons of ancient mamouth bone.
the guy harvesting is a millionaire from it.
I bet there will be a nice supply of real bone on the market soon.
I made my nut from square stock stainless steel. I used a jig and my beanch grinder to make a nice back angle. a sharp file cut the grooves fr the strings.
it turned out nice.
are you handy? you can easily make one perfect for your instrument.
metal yards are really interesting to explore. |
