I think this post was previously discussed. But I would like to bring it up again. I told this guy he is the AIR GUITAR player of PEDAL STEEL!!!
If you go to YOUTUBE and watch a pedal steel guitar players name of "redcanyy" and post your response on this I would appreciate it. When you go to youtube just type in his name in the search bar and it'll come up then watch both videos.
You'll notice on one of them he cuts his face off and the other he is wearing sun glasses. Why would he be hiding his identity ha!??
I know there were mixed ideas about this guy on the last post session. I personally think the guys fake as he??!!. But you be the judge. Some guys on the forum thought he was real and did a good job. But we know that video gets delayed somewhat, but this is ridiculous, that is, his delay action. Especially on the country hip hop, he walks off before the songs finished and the steel keeps right on playing. We know its not delayed that much!
I posted my response to his videos on youtube and basically told him what I thought, that he should stop fake playing. There are 2 songs on youtube he has posted. One is a lead guitar bluezy rock sound and one is a country hip hop. After a day both of my responses were deleted. I don't know how you can delete but there must be a way. Now today I posted again and just said "CON MAN" and we'll see what happens.
Anyway, please watch and post your feeling about this guy.

Also be aware that depending on the file type you upload to youtube, the sound track will get about 1 second off of the video track. I uploaded some videos last year and the steel playing is totally shifted from the video. |

The first tune posted is a great tune, sounds a bit Bakersfield, nice pickin', the second one shows some versatility, mighty fine playing on both videos. |

this is so great. I think there should be an entire forum devoted to this topic.
this discussion is way more interesting than playing pedal steel. I was hoping this would be brought up again and again and again and again. If the discussion dies down, I will re-post it as a new topic.
Hey I saw a video of Buddy Emmons on youtube the other day, and I'm pretty sure he was faking it too. I think "faking it" is the new "really playing."
Faking it is totally cool.
Im gonna go fake some steel playing now.
Have a fake day,

Is it possible that the playing is real and the room noise, footsteps, etc. are fake?

Yes!! In fact I sometimes play fake footsteps at my home when Im about to play my steel. And then I talk about it to my imaginary freinds. All this fake talk is so great. Lets discuss it forever. It's way more exciting than pedal steel.
I think we should find everyone on youtube who over-compressed their video and forgot to turn the de-interlacing function off causing it to be out of sync, and then tell them they are "con men"
Picking on a total stranger is much more fun than playing steel. Then we can come here and brag about how great it is to pick on someone. |

I don't believe it is fake, but I can't answer Doug's question about the foot steps.
What does it really matter? There's nothing dishonest unless he stated that it was a live/unedited recording.
Almost no pro videos are actually live.
There is one excellent video that members here have been raving about that I suspect is not live, due to multiple camera angles. I have no doubt the players did the recording, but the video edits are artistic license.
Of course I would never post video trickery...
The bottom line is YouTube is a fun site. Lighten up and enjoy it. |

Those are mighty loud footsteps for sneakers. Some sounds do seem to match up with some motions, but it could easily be the wrong sounds we are matching up with the wrong motions.
I don't know, I thought the "nothing" thread was a little more interesting. |

Joe,
Can you explain why the room noises are in perfect sync at the beginning and at the end of the video, and the steel is not? |
Yes. He sat around and practiced being out of sync. He practiced making it so that his right hand was picking notes when there werent any being played.
Then for the next one, http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rF0X-OH6BjI
he practiced playing just about 1/2 second off from the recorded track. It took many years to accomplish this level of perfectly out of sync playing.
Funny thing tho....I uploaded two videos to youtube last year, no music, just me speaking and a similar thing happened.......one video started off fine, then got out of sync, and the other was started out of sync and then synced up halfway through. That would lead me to beleive that a variety of sync problems are possible/probable. Hmmm........no one accused me of being a con man.
I wonder why we never see him around here? Oh wait he's probably practicing being out of sync at this very moment, waiting to confuse unsuspecting steel players. |

Doug(heeey, how are you!),
seems there is only one reason why one could believe it is fake: sound and video are out of sync. Well, that happens a lot with these movies, as i tried to point out with Tommy White's C6 clip. But i suppose
we all know Tommy, and we don't see the other guy's
face, that may raise some questions. Then again, what
could be his motive? And of course: who is the actual
steeler in that case? What's to gain with this? Is it Bobbe S. behind those shades trying to pull our leg again?
I don't believe it's fake.... |
