To all my Southern California steel pals

On Sunday, September 16, I'll be performing at The Coffee Gallery Backstage, 2029 N. Lake, in Altadena, I'll be opening for the Austrailian guitar/mandolin duo "Nougat".

The Coffee Gallery Backstage and The Coffee Gallery are 2 separate business that share the same location. The Coffee Gallery serves pastries and various hot and iced coffee drinks. The do not serve any alcoholic beverages, so there is no age limit for people to attend. (In other words, bring the kids.)

The Coffee Gallery backstage only serves music. Therefore there will be an admission charge. These charges vary depending on the act and the number of players on stage. At present the charge for this evening's performance has not been determined.

This is a big thing for me. It will mark the first time other than at a steel guitar show, where I'll be performing under my own name instead of accompanying some singer or being a part of somebody else's band, It will also be one of the very few times where I will be playing for an audience who will be sitting and actually listening to the music instead of drinking, talking, dancing, or playing pool.

For this occasion, I'll be performing a program of pop-jazz tunes, including some of the tunes I've played at steel shows (I won't be doing Gloria,) and will be accompanied by the lovely and extremely talented Miss Marcia Crews on keyboards. Marcia is a fine artist in her own right, and I am honored that she has consented to be my accompanist for the evening,

We start is at 7 PM and will play for around 35-40 minutes. It is recommended that you arrive about an hour earlier.

The phone number for reservations is (626) 398-7917

I hope you all can attend this very important evening for me.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Mike

Thanks guys. This is a big thing for me. I wish you all could come. Of course, a lot of the attendees will be personal friends and local steelers, but there will be a number of people there who have never seen a steel before, or if they have, it's been in the context of a backup instrument behind a singer. Never as the "frnt' instrument.

I'll be playing some of the same tunes during my set at the Mesa and possibly some other steel shows next year. (*He says in a not very subtle to Chuck*) Wink

Good for you Mike ! I certainly enjoy, and appreciate, all your efforts putting on the " Pearl Jam " every year, and wish I could come to your show. But for me, the focus is on recording a new CD of the " Pink Williams Band." We start recording on Sunday. This is the band you saw in LA. a few weeks back. Good luck ! J. W.

Once again, thanks guys. We go in a 7 PM and play for about 40 minutes. Some of the people who are coming will spend more time driving than I will be playing.

I found out that the admission price is $15.00

I've decided to include Jingle Bell Rock in my set. I figure that by the time the holidays are here, everybody will be burned out on Christmas songs, so I had better play one before everybody is sick of hearing it. Laughing

I hope that any and all So Cal players will come out and support this performance. If the club does well, they will not just have me back, but book other steel guitarists in the future.

Once again, the phone number for reservations is (626) 398-7917

Thanks Al. I hope all the local players show up.

However I must admit, the rehearsals aren't going as well as I had hoped, and there might be a few train wrecks in the set.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Sounds like a really cool venue Mike.... hope we will see more acts billed as "Pedal Steel Guitarists", instead of the typical "side man" role so long relagated to our instrument.

Let us know how is goes.

Best of luck, Mike. I know it will go well, and you will expose some new people to your wonderful music. Break a leg . . . well, don't break a leg, but have a good performance.

This is wonderful, Mike. A steel guitarist front and center is what we need more of...not just a "featured" artist, but the "star" performer.

I know you'll do a fine job. You'll wow them with you virtuosity! I wish you all the best.

Thanks guys. But I gotta tell you, I'm scared (explitive deleted)-less.

Please keep your fingers crossed that there will be a minimum of train wrecks.
