I play standard guitar as well as steel guitar
and the difference (for me) in some songs (not all)
is the expression you can generate with the
flow of the steel bar.
Heartstrings is an instrumental I wrote and recorded
over the past few days and I think it examplifies
my statement. It is played on an oldie Gibson Consolette tuned: E..B..E..F#..G#..B..C#..E {L to H}
There are some pedal simulations on this but it is
done with the bar.

Beautiful, musical, lyrical etc etc etc.
What a great warm, sweet vibrato you have.

But, I can't help but wonder at 2:24 the guitar goes to the V chord (E) and you play a G natural in the lead. It just sounded really odd to me in a song that's so "inside" all the other chord changes.

Roy! That truly was beautiful......... NOT comparing you with "anyone"...but at several points with my eyes closed, that vibrato and TONE was quite similar to JERRY BYRD, whether you were trying for it or not. VERY, Very, very NICE!
What guitar? What amp? Tell us the rest of the story, eh?

Ray,,,when I started in the early fifties my
teacher gave me 78's of Jerry's that I wore out.
I loved his sound as did many others at that time
and still do today.
My guitar on Heartstrings: Gibson Consolette,
Tuning E13th., no amp...recorded direct to Digital recorder.
Best Regards,
Roy

Aloha Roy,
This song really pulled at My Hearts Strings, I still have tears in my eyes after listening to your wonderful style. This song is Hawaii, and really is pulling me back.
If you don't mind, how is your E13 set up, I have played several, but am not too familiar with it yet. Also, do you have tabs on it?
Well it is 2:31 AM, and I want to listen just one more time.
Mahalo nui loa for your gift,
Phil Bender
