Since a number of Forumites are now in the possession of Rickenbacher Bakelites......Would any of you find it interesting to start a list of what serial numbers are in our midst?

We could start with the Pre-Wars (six strings; and seperately 7 strings, and 8 string models) and have a seperate listing for Post-War models too.

I know that collectively, we must have a virtual warehouse of these instruments.

I used to own 10 Bakelites and they were all stolen from my house! All of the serial numbers you've listed match the ones I'm missing. You'll be hearing from my attorney. Smile

Not so sure posting serial numbers is a good idea guys. Crooks can come after you for anything these days.

That's why I have double locks; bars on all doors and windows; electric fence with razor wire; and, full telephone direct security system. To back this up, I have a 37 round firearm with one in the chamber, and two dawgs; one named "killer" and the other 'Security'. Both are Hawaiian bred Chi-Hua-Hua's.........crossed with African Perauna.

Not exactly what I meant. I meant that someone could file a claim of theft against you guys and say that the serial numbers you just publicly posted match those of the Bakelites he claimed was in his possession. You have collectors' items (lots of $). If he had a crooked attorney, they could make a claim against you and dispossess you of your treasures.

But what do I know? I'm just a young, dumb forumite. Surely the scenario I just painted could never happen... Oh Well

Um ok. And then you would just show them how you posted those serial numbers in a public forum.

Keep laughing. It happened to a recording studio about 10 years ago here in Houston. A musician copied the serial numbers off of about $75,000 worth of recording gear and did exactly as I described above. Guess what? He won.

MATT: I guess you're right. My post suggeting we might have a justifiable reason to list our Ric Serial Numbers was foolish, ill conceived and irrational, to be sure.

I apologize to everyone that was tempted to participate.

Since everyone was including their serial numbers with photo's of their g'tars when newly purchased and for a wide variety of other reasons......I tho't it might be one way we could answer that lingering question that someone asked about "How many Ric's were produced?" during this time and that.

The guy who stole the guitars by using the serial numbers needs a clip load from that Remington 870.

What did you say his name is?
