Is the string spacing on a 7-string New Yorker about the same as a pedal steel? I understand that the design is a 6-string neck with an extra string added, no? I'm wondering how much playing one would mess with my picking technique.

Also, is the pickup on a 1939 New Yorker similar sounding to a string-through Supro?

The string spacing is somewhat narrower, but not as narrow as a pedal steel.

The pickup on a 1939 New Yorker does not sound much like that of a Supro. I think the New Yorker has a greater tonal range and doesn't break up as easily as a Supro. It's a much cleaner sound than the Supro.
